Computer Management

 BIOPOLIS Computer Management Options

There are two options for managing BIOPOLIS computers:

1. ITU Management

This is the default option. The ITU (IT unit) manages the computer security and software. This ensures:

- Enhanced Security: ITU maintains robust security configurations to minimise risks.

- Compliance: Pre-installed software ensures adherence to licensing agreements.

2. Self-Managed

While the IT-05 policy allows BIOPOLIS members to manage their computers, it is essential to understand the potential drawbacks:

- Security Risks: Installing unauthorised software can introduce vulnerabilities.

- Legal Issues: Using unlicensed software may violate copyright laws.

Devices that are not carefully configured, updated, and protected by security tools expose the institute and its community to theft, disruption, and damage.

Those seeking to self-manage should sign a Terms of Responsibility document. The document is available here  and details the user's responsibility for maintaining system security and software licensing compliance. The document should be signed by those who wish to self-manage the computer and delivered to the ITU team.
